UDL SPECIAL RESOURCES

The coaches and debaters of the Urban Debate Leagues will be receiving support and assistance available to no other high schools in America. Through the cooperation of Alfred C. Snider of the University of Vermont, Melissa Wade of Emory University, and Will Baker of the IMPACT Coalition printed and video instructional materials for debaters and coaches will be available

Each UDL school will receive a complete packet of these materials. They will be shipped in November to each school address supplied by the Program Directors in the various cities. This series is not available to non-UDL schools. Stay tuned to the UDL Listserv for news and information.

THE UDL WAY: THE CODE OF THE DEBATER

A 150-page policy debate instruction booklet uses a step by step method to teach new debaters how to have fun with debate. It combines lessons and materials from both the Emory National Debate Institute and the World Debate Institute, as well as the IMPACT Coalition, all programs which have shown themselves to be very successful at training UDL students.

THE UDL COACH: EDUCATION AND STRATEGY

This huge compendium of resources combines coaching materials and teaching aids supplied by the World Debate Institute, the Emory National Debate Institute, the IMPACT Coalition, Larry Moss of Spelman College, Betty Maddox of the Atlanta Public School System, and Doug Duke, national champion coach at the University of Central Oklahoma. This material will serve coaches not only in the classroom and on campus, but also at tournaments and on the road.

THE UDL DEBATE VIDEO SERIES

A comprehensive set of instructional videos will be sent to all UDL programs, bundled together on VHS tapes for private viewing or for showing in class. These tapes should meet the needs of novice and experienced debaters, as well as help with publicity and education about the nature of Urban Debate Leagues.
