The Rani has an evil plan - to clone Rasillon and Omega and produce young versions with brain patterns which she would edit. With these powerful servants she will rule the universe. To experiment on cloning an ancient Timelord from stolen Matrix data she chooses, out of spite, the Doctor's former spouse and Susan's grandmother, Lora, and clones a copy with only slightly edited brain patterns. A lock of her hair is delivered to the Doctor as a tease. The Doctor senses who the hair belongs to and comes to Snatalius where the Rani has a base. Snatalius is populated by the lizard-like Reptoids and a race of semi-intelligent giant snails, the Slugs. There, the Doctor walks into the Rani's trap only after arranging for the doom of her experiments even before landing based on Matrix data. He lands and is captured, and there meets Lora. She remembers him as a different person, but recognizes him. Lora knows she is not the "real" Lora and opposes the Rani's evil plan. Satisfied with the experiments, the Rani prepares to revive Rasillon's clone. There, the Doctor has to stand by while the trap he has set some time ago springs into action, destroying all of the Rani's clones, including Lora. They must say good-bye again. Both knew that the other was not the "real" companion from another time and another place. All of that is gone forever.
The Doctor: wandering Timelord in his 10th persona.
Irish: strange green cat with telepathic and shape-shifting capabilities. Companion to the Doctor.
The Rani: powerful female Timelord obsessed with biotechnic experiments.
Loradneuropaea clone [Lora] (see RETURN TO GALLIREY, NADWSim): clone of the Doctor's original spouse (Susan's grandmother). She and the Doctor met while young, and eventually fell in love while at the Academy (an unusual thing for Timelords) after Flavia also tried to court the Doctor. The rest of the details of their relationship are unknown (the Doctor is very quiet about such things) but it is known that she died in a terrible incident while many legendary Timelords watched (including Flavia and the Doctor, but rumor has it that Rassilon and Omega were also there). Details of this incident are still lacking. BUT REMEMBER... This is her Clone. The Rani's new cloning technology is able to take information from biodata extracts and grow a new creature, BUT is also able to regrow memory patterns as they existed at death and recorded in the Matrix, AND then EDIT them as the Rani decides. Buxom, 5'8", long red hair, face not unlike Romana #1, tends to be very direct and self-assured.
Chikush: Chief Tetrap (see TIME AND THE RANI) - Servant of the Rani, a large bat-like creature with eyes on all sides of its head. Eats a foul slime which the Rani controls the supply of. Has a sting tipped tongue it uses to stun victims.
Lizbo: Technophant of Dark-Moist Clutch, Snatalius (female Lizard person) - A nerd-like teachnical bureaucrat. Is obsessed with gaining technology from the Rani and is willing to sacrifice almost anything to get it. She despises Aoogah's self-indulgent nature, and dreams of replacing his rule with an enlightened technocratic regime which she will direct, but for now she must cooperate with Aoogah. She admires the Rani's abilities and ruthlessness.
Aoogah: Lord of Dark-Moist Clutch, Snatalius (male Lizard person) - Is suspicious of the Rani, but follows the advice of Lizbo that the technology she offers is worth the sacrifices they make for her work. Is a huge and corpulent lizard person, drools quite a lot, and is constantly thinking about delicious grubs and worms to east and the many females in the clutch who need to be fertilized.
Rasillon clone: A younger version of the dreaded ancient Timelord, edited to serve the Rani.
Omega clone: A younger version of the legendary ancient Timelord, edited to serve the Rani.
Warriors of Dark-Moist Clutch (Lizard people): See planetary abstract.
Giant Snails of Snatalius: See planetary abstract.
Gothal: Director of the CIA (1 only) - Currently a brain-implanted slave of the Rani.
Irish and Big/Heavy communicate, and Big/Heavy agrees to take Irish to the TARDIS and likes the idea of foiling the Rani, who is disrupting the balance of the planet -- where Reptoids and Slugs cooperated before, now Reptoids were acting more and more like Masters under the Rani's influence and added technology. Irish gets the Doctor's signal to trigger the energy pulse, but isn't in the TARDIS yet. Irish and Big/Heavy flee from Reptoid guards, who are firing energy weapons they should not have. Big/Heavy takes a hit from one, but orders other Slugs into the area and they trap the Reptoids and slime them. Irish arrives at the TARDIS and enters after thanking Big/Heavy.
Rasillon and Omega come to life. They stir and leave their caskets and stand before the
assembled creatures, magnificent in their appearance and bearing. They survey the situation
and quickly solve the riddle of who and what they are. The Rani addresses them as servitors, and
they don't like that. The Doctor sends a mental message to Irish to trigger the energy pulse
disabling all of the clones, but discovers that Irish is not yet in the TARDIS. Lora addresses
Rasillon and Omega with scorn, accusing them of arranging for her "accidental" death.
Rasillon and Omega refuse to obey the Rani, telling her that they can easily rework their brain
cells to cancel her attempted programming. Their minds project powerful energy beams which
trap the Rani and lift her up into the air, squirming and screaming in pain as she is wrapped in
crackling blue energy. Lizbo and Chikush are frozen in terror seeing their all-powerful
mistress so controlled by her supposed clone-servants. Rasillon announces that no one must be
allowed to disturb the fate of the two greatest Timelords, and announce that all must be
destroyed. Their fate must remain as it is.
Irish moves quickly to the console and sends a message to the Doctor -- "Ready now, Maker." He waits, and on the Doctor's order triggers the energy pulse from the TARDIS. As the pulse radiates out from the TARDIS, Irish scampers back outside to see how the wounded Big/Heavy is doing. Irish comforts the huge Slug, who communicates that he will heal. Big/Heavy and Irish exchange bizarre knowledge telepathically. As Irish senses that the TARDIS is about to dematerialize by remote control, he jumps back into the door. The TARDIS dematerializes to the amazement of Big/Heavy, who wonders that such a powerful cat exists.
Rasillon and Omega clones prepare to destroy the entire complex by inverting the central energy generators with their mental powers, killing all within many, many miles. The Doctor receives Irish's ready signal. The Doctor asks them to stop, and informs them that he has established an energy beam which will disrupt the molecular bonds of all clones, destroying the clones but not killing others. The Omega clone is interested, but does not want the Rani to be spared. Rasillon focuses his mind on Lizbo and Chikush and orders them to pursue and torture the Rani throughout the remainder of their lives. They immediately posture themselves under her squirming form, waiting for their chance. Omega and Rasillon agree, all of the Rani's clones should be neutralized, including themselves. The Doctor gives the signal to Irish, and the energy pulse begins, and the clones immediately feel their vigor begin to wane. Rasillon looks at the Doctor and Lora and shares a secret with them. Yes, they arranged for Lora's accident because her cause was to have the Timelords cooperate with and nurture the Universe, not rule and observe it, and they wanted power, so they destroyed her. Lora is feeling weak in the Doctor's arms, but shows her contempt for their ways. Rasillon decides to do both of them a slight favor as the clones die, and reveals that after Lora's death they had the High Council use the Matrix to erase many of the Doctor's memories of those ancient days, and then allowed he and Susan to steal a Type 40 TARDIS, thus setting the stage for the Doctor's wandering searching for something he could not identify or know. All three clones are rapidly losing strength, the force field around the Doctor and Lora drops as the Rani has lost control of the Vivitorium. The Doctor activates the Stattenheim Remote Control Device and then picks Lora up in his arms. Rasillon and Omega are losing their molecular bonds and slump to the floor. Lora feels very weak as the Doctor carries her. She whispers that the past is gone but perhaps can be remembered, and urges the Doctor to rediscover their shared past and what really happened on Gallifrey so long ago. The Rani falls from the blue energy force field (no longer generated by Rasillon and Omega's minds) and as she plops on the floor finds Lizbo and Chikush facing her with sinister intent. The TARDIS appears and the Doctor steps inside with Lora's rapidly weakening body in his arms.
The Rasillon and Omega clones are weakened and dying, but they mock the Rani as they perish. The Rani tries to get Lizbo and Chikush to obey her, but they begin chasing her around the vivitorium, snapping at her with lizard teeth and threatening her with Tetrap poisonous tongue. The Rani exits into the huge fern jungles with her former servants in hot pursuit and they all vanish into the dense vegetation shouting and screaming.
The Doctor steps into the TARDIS carrying Lora. Thanking Irish he goes quickly to the Cloister Room. He tells Lora that perhaps the TARDIS can restore her in the Cloister Room, but Lora whispers that it should not be done. She is, after all, not the real Lora. The Doctor is anguished -- but she feels like Lora, talks like Lora, has Lora's memories -- but he knows that she is right. Irish follows them with great curiosity. Irish senses the Doctor's great grief. As they arrive in the Cloister Room the Doctor places her on a couch near the huge cut glass window. Fraught with grief, the Doctor asks her what he should do. She whispers with her last breath -- do what you have been doing, "always love me, and do what your heart commands. If you do that, I will always love you." As Lora's clone expires, the Doctor lowers his head onto her chest and is silent, holding back a sob. Irish leaps onto the table and nuzzles the back of the Doctor's head in an attempt to comfort him. There is absolute quiet, and then the TARDIS (of its own accord) dematerializes and leaves Snatalius.
