PHOTO: Students swarm Kate Shuster with questions

High School students at the Public Debate Workshop had a pause in their intensive debate training today, but that pause was filled with a serious activity and information session, and the subject was how to get into the best college they can.
Kate Shuster has been trained as an academic admissions officer at a very selective consoryium of elite colleges in Claremont, California. She spent an hour talking to students about planning their high school activities, how to brighten up their extra-curricular activities, how to write a proper essay, and many other points. Much of the time, however, was taken up by questions from the highly motivated students.
Debate success is wonderful training, and it is one of the most valued extracurricular activities you can have, but unless the rest of the academic record is strong it is quite difficult to get into a top school. These debaters are thinking about more than just debate, Kate has them thinking about success.
