Busy, busy Thursday....

PHOTO: Legal requirements mean we cannot post any photos of the middle school students, but they are really cute! So, here are some high school students on their break between sessions, standing on the steps of the Royall Tyler Theatre.

It has been a busy day here at WDI. With the one week program coming down the home stretch it is time to have the students perform and show what they have learned and for them to further learn by doing.

The High School Public Debate students spent all morning giving presentations and speeches that were then analyzed and critiqued. After lunch they had impromptu speaking exercises. At 3 PM the big event of the day was a student congress session where all students participated and debated the merits of proposals they had authored. That lasted until dinner, but tonight they have homework to prepare for Friday morning’s speaking assignment.

The Middle School Public Debate students had a day full of debating. Evryone had two full critiqued debates in the morning. After lunch they had a practicum on preparation and research, followed by two more debates. As of now all these students have been in seven debates. After that dinner, but tonight they have homework to prepare for tomorrow, when they will have three more debates.

The weather has been very nice, but we are a little worried that it might get hot tomorrow and Saturday. Well, that’s hot by Vermont standards (92 degrees) but not what many regions of the country go through. Being this far north is nice in the summer, but can be a bit much in February.
