Friday is the last instruction day for the High School Public Debate and also the Middle School Public Debate workshops. The day was full of instruction and debating. At the end the faculty notived a number of things:
-The students have improved considerably in the short time of the program
-The students have been increasingly able to handle complex topics and complex forms of argument
-The students are anxious to ask questions and add ideas during lectures and sessions, showing they are very active learners who take responsibility for their own education
-Many of them have become very good friends and are going to miss each other a lot.

At the final assembly before dinner students filled out evaluations, for their WDI “Boot Camp for the Brain” t-shirts, had some closing words from faculty, and received everyone’s congratulations.

Tonight they will have dinner, go downtown for some souvenier shopping, some Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, and perhaps even a movie. On the last night bed check will be late (but the dorms are always supervised).

Tomorrow they all leave and return to their homes and families, some by car and some by air. They have been a great group and I know many of them will return.

No blog tomorrow, but on Sunday we have a larger group of high school students coming in for the National high School Policy Debate Workshop. It will be time to start again with a new group. Next blog on sunday as they arrive.
