UVM debate continued its outreach efforts in rural North Carolina in November. The pictures are now here, so it is time for the story. LDU alumna Meredith Parmett has been teaching at Monroe County Middle School in rural North Carolina and has her students interested in debate. During their trip to the Wake Forest tournament LDU students and coaches dropped by the school for a debate workshop and some debating. The students had selected as a topic "Should should be voluntary" and were anxious to debate. Each UVM debater teamed up with two students to prepare. After the students had spoken the last speech by each side was given by the UVM debater to try and pull the issues together. It was a great deal of fun for all concerned. We thank the Wild Warrior debaters for their enthusiasm and hospitality. Extra big thanks to Meredith Parmett who takes debate with her wherever she goes!
LDU
alum Kenan Osmanovic dropped by Huber House to say hello and report on his activities.
Kenan has been with the International Rescue Committee working in NYC to help
immigrants in need for the last four years. He has helped thousands of people
navigate the channels of immigration, and is currently working more and more
with women who have been trafficked to the USA for sexual servitude, helping
them apply for citizenship and get their lives back in order. Kenan may be headed
to medical school, so we will try to stay in touch.
Kenan says hello to his pals Max, Gordie, Scotty Geller, Helen, Justin, Sarah, and Rae, among others.
