Eighteen teams debated this weekend as the LDU held an in-squad scrimmage to prepare for the tournaments to come. With West Point next weekend, Harvard the following weekend, followed by Catholic University and then the University of Massachusetts/Wake Forest weekend, there is a lot of competition coming up. The novices were almost all debating and the experienced debaters both judged and debater in a day long debate frenzy. In the end, new stars had appeared in the LDU sky. The top speakers included 1. Eric Hoke, 2. Ashley Chapman, 3. Eleanor Corcoran, 4. Adam Rostler, 5. Ari Diaconis, 6. Brennan Leene, 7. Taylor Lalemand, 8. Adam Scherr, 9. Tyler Brannan, and 10. Amadeus Kaelber. Food was provided by a combination of Bove's (lasagna) for lunch and a dinner provided by Foggy's Notion, a new club and restaurant in Burlington managed by LDU alumna Kayce Massey. Awards consisted of timers, folders, tubs and expandable files. Needless to say, Vermont won half the rounds and lost half of the rounds, but all called it a valuable learning experience.
