UVM and the Lawrence
Debate Union once again honor Robert "Doc" Huber, who coached at UVM
for over 40 years, won championships, and created a secure endowment for UVM
debate by getting Edwin Lawrence to invest in future debaters. The tournament
is a conscientiously scheduled tournament so that all east region teams will
be able to attend and there is a weekend "free" of other East tournaments
on either side. The highlights will be the hospitality of the LDU crew, especially
in terms of lunch on Saturday. Last year UVM debaters, parents, and alums got
down to doing some good cooking and provided everyone with great home cooked
dishes to fit a wide variety of tastes. This year we hope to do more of the
same.
Rounds
on Saturday October 18th will be at 8:30 AM, 11 AM, 2:30 PM, 5 PM, and 7 PM.
Sunday the sixth round will be at 8 AM, with awards, announcements, and more
food following at 11:30. The elimination rounds will be at 12:30, 2:30 PM, 4:30
PM, and the finals at 6:30 PM. Events are centered in Lafayette Hall on the
main campus. All are invited.
UVM teams, by a vote of the squad, will debate in prelims but will not qualify for elimination rounds. Also, it was decided that disclosure of your aff is due to Gordie on Thursday at worlddebate2003@hotmail.com.

and exciting night life provided by our many social directors.
-Unusual and provocative awards, as is our custom.
-A huge number of UVM teams competing.
AND THE PEAK OF THE LEAF SEASON!
Coach
Alfred "Tuna" Snider will be attending the International Debate Education
Association global assembly in Dubrovnik, Croatia this weekend. Attended by
debate organizers from over 35 countries, it is an excellent opportunity for
networking and outreach. Snider will be chairing a panel and responding to papers
written by scholars from Japan, Hungary, Kazakhstan, and Moldova. The title
of the panel is entitled, "Argumentation and advocacy in contemporary politics."
<== Last year's meeting, Krakow, Poland
Plans will be afoot for developing a faculty base for the World Debate Institute session to be held in China in April, 2004, as well as preparations for the All-Balkan Debate Workshop Snider will be directing over the Thanksgiving break. There is also hope of attracting more international students to WDI, as well as possible plans to hold a WDI session in Europe.
