The Voice of Edwin is the weekly newsletter of the Edwin Lawrence Debate Union at the University of Vermont, an endowed co-curricular program which trains students in debating and sponsors national competition and community events. The season began in Waterloo, Iowa where Helen Morgan and Sarah Snider attended the season-opener at the University of Northern Iowa. They were 3-1 the first day but dissatisfied with their affirmative (lift sanctions on Iraq) and then switched to a new case for the second day. While the case did well the day was a frustrating 1-3, thus they finished 4-4. While disappointed, the word was that the argument selection and prepartation had gone well but the massive evidence output needed to be better organized, always a beginning of the year difficulty. With undaunted spirits they continue to South Carolina for the National Round Robin tournament followed by the South Carolina tournament proper. Sarah, Helen, and coach Jackie Massey will be joined by Greta Lockwood, Peter Winfield, Daniel Serfer, and Aaron Fishbone along with Coach A. C. Snider in South Carolina.
