The LDU season got underway this last weekend at the University of Northern Iowa. Mark Douglas and Aaron Fishbone finished with a 2-6 record. Attending coach Jackie Massey found encouragement in a number of factors, and here is a summary of his report. We could have been a bit better prepared, but for the most part our negative strategies were sound but we needed to be more familiar with them. Only one debate was a real thumping (Wake Forest), and all of the others were very close. We had problems with impact comparisons. In the first two affirmative rounds we needed to rework our topicality and inherency positions. Jackie reported that he was pleased at the way we were debating having listened to a couple of rounds, and he is very optimistic for what will happen as the year goes on. Jackie has kudos for Fishbone.
