The Voice of Edwin is the weekly newsletter of the Edwin Lawrence Debate Union at the University of Vermont, an endowed co-curricular program which trains students in debating and sponsors national competition and community events. The LDU meets every Monday night at 6 PM at 475 Main Street.

SEASON BEGINS THIS WEEKEND IN IOWA

Aaron Fishbone and Mark Douglas will be debating this weekend at the season-opening debate tournament at the University of Northern Iowa, scheduled to be attended by over 75 different teams. Jackie Massey will be accompanying them. Mark Douglas is a Middlebury student, and this represents a new cooperative venture between UVM and Middlebury. After starting a policy debate team last year at Middlebury, Mark now has a substantial financial commitment from the college and they will be covering all of his costs. Aaron placed third at this Summer's World Debate Institute tournament while Mark finished first.

TEAMS NEED TO BE FORMED

Without teams you can't go to tournaments and can't get an evidence set. We have 30 debaters, so we should end up with 15 teams. Plane tickets will be purchased soon, and without formed teams to apply these tickets will not be purchased.
