IN THE FALL OF 1899 .... three UVM students decided to liven up the old campus with the practice of debating. E. P. Butler, Edwin Lawrence and his brother Robert created the University of Vermont's debating society which still exists and thrives today. During the upcoming academic school year we will be celebrating and commemorating the many people, events, and memories of the last 100 years. We encourage you to get in touch with us about ideas and memories.
The first squad meeting of the year was held on Monday night at 489 Main Street and was very well attended given that this was also the first day of school. New faces joined the LDU family, including: Ted Malley, an articulate Speech student; Daniel Serfer, a Florida first year with considerable debate experience; Anthony Pagan, a NYC first year who was the 1998-99 NYUDL Champion; Steph McDonald, a successful college debater who has transfered from Marist College; and Jaime Robertson, an Arkansas first year with considerable debate experience.
The LDU also announced its coachoing staff for the 1999-2000 year. Alfred C. Snider is the Director, while faculty member Jackie Massey, internet entrepreneur Terry McKnight, and law researcher Trond Jacobsen continue as coaches, but are joined by alum Justin Parmett. Rae Schwartz and Jeff Cedarfield will also be assisting.
One or more may have to be cut based on travel costs.
