The LDU announced its coaching staff for 2002-2003. Jackie Massey's position as lecturer and coach will be filled by Helen Morgan '00, who has just completed her masters degree at the University of Pittsburgh, where she was a star student, teacher, and coach. Helen was twice named All-American while at UVM and qualified for the elimination rounds at both CEDA Nationals and the NDT. She was named "most valuable debater" in spring, 2000. Helen has one of the highest GPAs of any LDU debater and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Her work at the World Debate Institute has been outstanding, and the LDU debaters are very excited to be working with her.
Justin Parmett '99 will also be joining the coaching staff. Justin will also be teaching Effective Speaking through Continuing Education. Justin was an outstanding debater for UVM and was named top varsity speaker at the East regional championships in spring, 1999. He has since completed a masters degree at the University of South Carolina where he also served as debate coach. Justin has received the judging award for excellence at Towson University and has been an outstanding faculty member at the World Debate Institute.
Greta Lockwood '01
will continue her work as debate coach, where she has received rave reviews.
Abigail Trebilcock '02 will be coaching in addition to her duties with Howard
Dean's Fund for a Healthy America. Shawn Wilkerson '03 has run out of debate
eligibility but will be joining the coaching team. Shawn was named to the
All-American team in 2001 and 2002.
The LDU fielded a team at the Segundo Torneo Hispanoamericano de Debate, held in Puerto Rico at Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico. This is the second year UVM has entered a Spanish speaking team at this event.

WDI will offer a two week high school policy workshop, a one week national high school leadership workshop, a college policy debate workshop, a college parliamentary workshop, an international debate workshop, as well as coach training programs.
The current CEDA National Champions, Joe Ramsey and Jason Regnier, were WDI students last summer.
