The LDU placed an unprecedented three students on the All American Debate Teams named by the Cross Examination Debate Association for the 2000-2001 season. The awards were announced at the CEDA national tournament held in Tennessee. Junior Aaron Fishbone was named to the team to represent UVM. Usually only one student from each school can be named to the All American team, but since Shawn Wilkerson attends the Community College of Vermont (transferring to UVM in the Fall) it was possible that partners on the same team could be named to the All American squad. Aaron is a junior and Shawn is a sophomore.
Lisbeth Robinson, senior, was named to the Academic All American team. Lisbeth is a true LDU champion. She began as a novice last year and immediately moved to varsity and junior varsity debate. She was recently named as the top senior in her major, Biochemical Sciences. She has been accepted and received a fellowship for a unique graduate program at the University of Minnesota, where she will be attending law school as well as medical school to develop a legal and medical expertise in the area of toxicology. While debating successfully and staying at the top of her class, Lisbeth has also been an exemplary mother of the LDU's favorite child, Colby, who has accompanied her mother on numerous debate trips.
Future issues will
feature more stories about national awards recently received by the LDU students
and coaches.
