The Voice of Edwin is the weekly newsletter of the Edwin Lawrence Debate Union at the University of Vermont, an endowed co-curricular program which trains students in debating and sponsors national competition and community events. TWO LDU STUDENTS SERVE ON UVM BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The UVM Board of Trustees has two student members, and both of them happen to be debaters. Abigail Trebilcock was selected to serve on the Board of Trustees last year and has now been joined by Sanjeev Yadav. The Board has been very active of late in a number of very important areas, such as the leadership of President Ramaley, efforts to implement the strategic change plan, the capital campaign to increase UVM's endowment, the selection of a new President and Provost, and many other important issues. Often Board meetings have conflicted with some debate tournaments, but both students bring their considerable debate talents to their Board tasks with vigor.

Abigail put it this way, "The combination of the abilities I have developed as a debater and the experiences I am having as a member of the Board of Trustees makes me confident that I will be able to handle the many challenges I will face after I graduate from UVM."

Congratulations to both students and good luck in the future in their important position.

LDU PLANS SPRING PUBLIC DEBATE ON GREEK SYSTEM

The LDU will be sponsoring an April event which will feature our debaters on the question of whether UVM should retain its current Greek social system, Stay tuned for details! Nat Sillin is the coordinator of this even.

BANQUET SET FOR SATURDAY NIGHT, APRIL 28, 2001

Students, staff, parents, friends, supporters all invited. We celebrate our year, say farewell to those leaving us, and hand out lots of prize money! Long on fun, short on boring speeches, this is an event you won't want to miss. Location and menu to be announced, but circle it on your calendar now. Wendy O'Connor is in charge of planning.
