| Jillian Marty -- LDU leader for four strong years ||
Jillian Marty arrived at UVM four years ago with very little debate experience but a determination to make her education at UVM pay off both in and out of the classroom. She has obviously succeeded. She has racked up an impressive list of debate awards but that is a small part of her real contribution to UVM debate.
Jillian is the first debater at UVM to be President of the Lawrence Debate Union for four years. She was instantly recognized as a leader even in her first year, and her performance in these years has led to no one else being interested in challenging her for the office of President. She has fought numerous budget battles with SGA and has provided the LDU with additional funding. She has also worked to raise awareness about debate at UVM.
Jillian has been a strong force in recruiting new debaters. Her concerns are always with the novices, and she has been adamant about making sure the focus of the squad is always on the new debaters. During the last two years Jillian has also been the research director of the LDU, worrying about what other people are arguing and prioritizing research assignments. She has taken her share of those assignments, but has also monitored the research of others and helped countless assignments reach completion through her personal intervention.
Jillian has become a very popular instructor at various high school debate workshops, including UVM's WDI. At WDI she has been the head RA for three summers, and has also worked at camps at Catholic University, Emory University, and in Washington, DC. Her concern for students has always been about them personally first and about debate second, but no student has ever doubted Jillian's commitment to teaching debate as a tool for individual empowerment.
Jillian is awaiting graduate school and fellowship decisions and hopes to get a graduate degree in speech communication.
Jillian will be honored at the College of Arts and Sciences Honors Day ceremony in the spring.

Annalei McGreevy came by the office with her husband David and their beautiful child Kavika. They sent time catching up with old friends and sharing insights with expectant parents Helen and Justin Morgan Parmett. Things are going well up in the Northeast Kingdom and the house and land are convivial.
Anthony Pagan has now reached the ranks of the graduated. He stopped by the office to catch up on old times and let everyone know that he has been working with youthful offenders and is really enjoying it. Good luck, Anthony!
