WEBSITE CELEBRATES FIFTH YEAR!

The beginning of September marks the fifth year of the LDU's general debate website, DEBATE CENTRAL. Found at http://debate.uvm.edu the comprehensive debating website has become the largest and the busiest debate website in the world, now with over 2800 users a day.
The site was begun in September, 1994 as a gopher site for people to retrieve text files about debating. Unannounced when it was turned on, it was being used within 20 minutes by some web crawler.
Now the site features libraries and materials for learning to debate, coach, judge; to get information about tournaments, travel, and addresses; to find debate materials to buy; to develop individuals and careers through institutes, graduate study, job board, and college recruitm, ent for debate; to join organizations, listservs, and check in on debate's largest organizations (CEDA & NFL); and with more being added every day.
This last Spring STREAMING INTERNET VIDEO was added to the site, and now there is a growing library of debates, lectures, and discussions. Go to http://debate.uvm.edu/broadcast.html.
COMING UP ON DEBATE CENTRAL: Live internet debating (UVM vs. Cornell this year, UVM vs. British team in London early next year) everyone in the world can watch; and a complete make over of the site.
