VERMONT QUARTERLY MAGAZINE FEATURES LDU

VERMONT QUARTERLY magazine's Winter, 2000 issue features the University of Vermont debate team as its cover story. Written my Lynda Majarian after extensive research and interviews (although we tried to get her to come on a tournament with us, and she is still very welcome!), the story is accurate and informative, and the debaters and coaches are very pleased with it. Alumni Nick Danigelis, Karen McCullough, Laura Ellingson, and Maxwell Schnurer are also featured. For those of you not able to receive a copy of VQ, the story should soon be posted at the VQ website at http://universitycommunications.uvm.edu/vq/.

DEBATE CENTRAL WEBSITE GETS FACELIFT

The Debate Central website is the largest and most comprehensive debate website in the world. Located at http://debate.uvm.edu/, the site now has over 3000 users a day and has been visited by people from over 70 nations. Instruction, information, organizations, networking, the site features text, graphics, and over 80 internet video offerings. The site also serves as the websites for the Cross Examination Debate Association (the largest college debating organization) and the National Forensic League (the largest high school debating organization). The site also features complete policy debate and argumentation textbooks online.

The previous site design was geographical (library, academy, organization offices, etc.) but under the new system it is more action oriented, focusing on what users want to do: debate, learn, watch video, buy, join, explore, grow, etc. Debate Central is sponsored by the Lawrence Debate Union and the College of Arts & Sciences.
