Tournament to bring $6 million to Wichita area

Wichita will be the site for the National Forensics League National Speech and Debate Tournament, an event expected to generate more than $6 million for the surrounding economy.

About 3,000 high school students from 970 U.S. schools will compete at the tournament.


It's being held June 17-22 at Century II, East High School, Derby High School and Derby Middle School.

There also will be 2,000 adult judges, officials and sponsors.

Social events have also been planned for the Sedgwick County Zoo, Botanica and the Red Rapids Aquatic Park in Derby.
