There is an explosion of university level academic debate taking place all over the world. One of the regions where that is especially true is in the Spanish speaking Western Hemisphere. The Pan American Universities Debating Championship will attempt to promote this development by staging a rigorous competition in Spanish. After the 2011 Campeonato Mundial Universitario Debate en Espanol that was staged in Venezuela, and with the next CMUDE in 2012 in Chile, this tournament is an attempt to create more and better opportunities to develop critical thinking, advanced communication skills and the analytical abilities that will be needed to address our common 21st Century challenges.
