ENMU has a nationally competitive Policy Debate program centered around the NDT/CEDA "national circuit." The program is receiving a budget increase this year and has solid administrative support. We invite freshman to become a part of our program, regardless of high school experience or "national circuit" background. If you want to debate, we would like to talk to you. ENMU finished 11th in squad points in the Cross Examination Debate Association sweepstakes competition. Our top team finished in quarters of CEDA Nationals and cleared 21st at the NDT. We are commited to offering our students the best opportunities in college debate, top level coaching, and a generous scholarship program. Monies are available to students for tuition assistance, dorm payments, and a work study program within the team itself. Nearly all students are compensated to a level that guarantees outside employment will not be necessary. The team also runs a high school camp during the summer that employs returning debaters. The squad pays for all fees and lodging, travel costs, and a per diem stipend to each debater for meals during tournaments and travel. We assist in getting supplies and have in the past given grants to returning students for college camps. Travel for the '98-'99 debate season includes such tournaments as Wake Forest, University of Northern Iowa, Baylor, University of Kentucky, U. So. California and many others. The team will attend both CEDA and NDT Nationals, so those not qualifying for the NDT will have the opportunity for a national championship tournament. Unlike many teams, ENMU travels its freshman class regularly in both open and junior varsity. You will not sit at home while the top team travels. Travel is based on merit acheived by work and commitment to the team. Coaches work with debaters at all levels. We currently have 3 coaches on staff. For those of you who might seem intimidated by debating in college, ENMU works closely with students to insure that you have the skills to compete. All we need is your brain and a desire to be a part of the team, the coaches will do the rest. Interested?
